First Attack On Kazaa Users!!
The first legal attack on KaZaA users has been made. A man who shared a pre-screen release of The Hulk 2 weeks before its theatrical release was sued today. For 250 000 USD fine and 3 years in prison. This seems pretty serious for something many of us do. Anyone scared yet? How many of you have uninstalled KaZaA?
PS: Me being an idiot, hasnt uninstalled KaZaA cuz I aint scared of them govement types!! Viva la rudies revolutione!

there's more to that story. Universal ultimately leaked it, from what I've read.
<edit> read about it here...

I don't think it's that people aren't afraid. I think it's that they don't think they will get caught.
Just like I'm not afraid of squirrels. But I won't take that squirrel and shoot it through the window in Wal-Mart with a hand crafted bazooka because I would get caught. And I don't want that.
Come on, you know that would be cool.

apparently, Gonzalez tried to get past the digital key embedded into the film anyway. so, he got caught knowing well what he was trying to get away with.
handcrafted bazooka!? wow. I'd line up for one of those

I wonder why they didn't implement this in Matrix: Reloaded? It seems it would have been pirated far more than The Hulk. Maybe they did and their collecting names? Just a thought.
Clif and I are working on them now. How many would you like? Just a warning, not many of squirrels are living through the experiments, so if you have any pets you want to keep....

dunno. It might have been that Universal (i think that was the movie company) began the investigation, but the government is prosecuting Gonzalez (since the case was handed over to the FBI).

I think you misunderstood. He's not being charged for being in jail, that's part of his sentence. He must pay $250,000 and serve 3 years jail time.
Or am I missing something?

lol! I get it erova.
They can charge a maximum of 250k fine and/or 3 years jail.
bad wording in that article.

right right, i know what the hells' goin on here, if nothin else i'm just splittin hairs but they're pretty different terms...
obviously the fine/sentence is punishment for the felony...then he'd be exposed to civil and probably punitive damages as well, separate from the 250k fine...

i don't see anything about Kazaa in there...

3 years in jail!?!
harsh...

it has to do with KaZaA because there has been a new law that came into effect today which allows such punishments. This man released the movie on mIRC, so those who think they're safe there are dead wrong. What's even worse is that it's a Dutch channel, which means FBI does have jurisdiction to investigate in foreign lands.

yeah what law is that? didn't know they needed a new law for Copyright infingement.. besides, this has to do with Universal and Hulk 2.. sure if it was the RIAA alot more then 1 person would have been busted. the 3 years, 250,000 fine is the max sentence.. probably won't get that. Unless he gets some hard a$$ judge.
this is just some guy who got caught 3 weeks after uploading a copy of the movie to the web. but again nothing was said about Kazaa. And it's not illegal to have Kazaa on ur PC.

Actually, the RIAA isn't targeting downloaders. So if you don't mind disabling the sharing in your options...

I can't get in trouble for sharing porn, can I?!?!
*runs to disable file sharing permissions*

I've read on a German news site that they are going directly after Kazza users that share huge amount of files. (To put them into jail)
So if you have a huge amount of files in your shared folder, disable sharing!
Or you will go to
JAIL
Oh, and the best way to get mp3 files are internet radio stations anyway, with 128k download rates and all those stream reaper tools you can get as much music as you want and in a good enough quality for most uses.
