Under the influence
Broadband, at last!
All I need to do is switch over phone lines and my adsl is up and running - we got the "gamer plan" only 512kb but that should be sufficient.
Any things I should know before delving in? Will it really be that fast?

it's been a long time; but I remember the days of dial-up.
more like nightmare.
If I were you, I'd invest in a personal firewall due to the "always on" nature of most broadband, and your ISP will not block all requests such as POST or GET on some ports to your machine.
In otherwords, get Zonelabs or Kerio's firewall. They're both free for private use, and are both rather inuntrusive to services and RAM/CPU usage.
Other than that... welcome to the broadband world mate.

Thanks boys.
Funny, I used to have zonelabs, it REALLY screwed my computer up, even in safe mode it would spontaneously reboot, although it was an older version I'm still not sure.
Thanks for the advice.

Yahoo's launcast works on my 56k.....as long as I am not surfing at the time
I wish i COULD GET broadband.....
Which reminds me, maybe I should look in to Satelite again....maybe there is a plan that has enough dail-up that I can do a little online gaming when I feel the urge.

Onlinegs, I heard some girl "accidently" was able to breech Silicon Valley Highschool's wireless network on her laptop right outside of the school... I'm sure you could move in next door and bum a pretty decent speed...

Well, I am 1 mile too far away for DSL, so I would have to bum that connection an awfully long ways.
Thanks rafiki, are there any houses for sale next to you.

Heh, I've had broadband in 4 places for all but three months since 1998.
I know how you must feel though.
