Flash MX 2004 is here. Keep sending in your player bugs tho. They need to ensure 100% backwards compatability...

I read something on News.com that disturbed me:

"Flash MX 2004 will use the timeline-based interface familiar to existing Flash developers, but Flash MX Professional 2004 will sport a forms-based interface similar to that used by developers accustomed to programming interfaces such as that in Microsoft's Visual Basic. "

Does that mean that the Pro version will not have the timeline at all? Will I have to buy both versions -- one for animation and one for development? Anyone in the know here?

I don't have any additional info on that, but "forms based input" sounds to me like how actionscript was entered in the flash3 days!

I don't believe it'll be that ugly though I do wonder the same, will there be 2 different products?

According to the Macromedia forums, both versions will have the timeline, I was getting upset over nothing. Pro version here I come!

it looks like java developers (me included) are going to love this Actionscript 2.0 - its looking much more like a specifically OOP language.

As I read on http://www.macromedia.com/software/f...index.html#05, at last they will solve the problem with antialiasing text! Hurrah!

But what about the right mouse button? Will it, at long last be possible to disable the bloody default Macromedia's right-click menu to display my own?

You will not be able to disable the Settings / About Flash.

don't they understand people want to use right mousebutton as a tool, not as their advertisement?

It was one of my most awaited modifications... aparently I have to wait for Flash 8

I don't see it happening without third party stuff used. You can customize the menu, just not disable it.

Which third party tools do you mean? Does they allow to put my own commands into the default menu... it would be also a not-so-bad soltion.

Could you name some of that tools?

From what I've read, you can put your own commands in there, which I'm also excited about.

Frankly it makes sense that you can't disable the "Settings" and "About Flash" menu items. Settings determines whether a site can save information on your hard drive or access your cam and microphone. A user has to be able to access those. And you can't blame Macromedia for putting in the "About Flash" item. They should be able to stamp their name on their own product, and considering it only shows up in the right-click menu, that's really pretty good. Plus it gives you easy access to check what version of the player you have.

does anybody know if MX2004 will have anything to stop people decompiling .swf files?
I dont think flash can be used as a serious application and interface tool while source code from the flash movies is so easily accessable.
