    Video in Flash 5?

    Hi There--

Am writing for a friend who has Flash 5 only.

She's making a CD and wants to take a video trailer and put it into her Flash movie. It's a .mov quicktime file. She also has Final Cut, iMovie and Media 100 so she can change the format to anything Flash wants.

She tried to import it and place it but has been unsuccessful.

Every time she tries to put it in, it's black and won't play.

She says that she has searched tutorials and still doesn't know where to start.

From what I remember, Flash 5 has limited video capabilities. I just don't remember what they are.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Lee

    Hi.
You can link to an external .mov file.
You can also import a Quicktime file and it will be imported as a sequence of images. But there will be no audio and no bitrate control.
A third option is to check out our software Flix, which in addition to creating MX video .swf's for the Flash 6 player, can create a Flash 3-6 video that plays in any Flash player version 3-6. There are free demos to see if it suits your needs.

    Here is another option

Check out J-Movie from the *********** crew.

I think it only works on a PC...

    Hi--

    Thanks!

I think she's on a Mac, but I'll forward this onto her.

    Cheers,

Video support came in with MX. You can work with QT but it wont be viewable with the flash 5 player. Link to external Convert to either swf or to image sequences as mentioned. For audio she should seperate the audio track with any utility made for this. Check on tucows.com for plenty of them.

If she uses image sequences people will only require flash 4 or later player

hi, sounds like she's a fellow editor like myself. what i've done on my site is create links to quicktime movies. this will get her around trying to import or imbed her trailer into flash. it keeps them seperate. this can be done without putting it online. meaning from cd. she can see examples on my site under 'editor work'
