What contributes to SWF size? OR why are my files so big.

Perhaps this has been covered....but what makes your swfs to big. Besides imagery, what else? Frame rates, tweening, gradients?

And how do keep your file sizes low ( SWF) especially for banner development.

Audio can too. But I can't imagine what you could be
putting in a banner that would be huge other than images.
Unless you're making one of those super annoying full on
    audio video transparent bg popups.

    What I mean is....

Other than images, what other things contribute to large file size?

    tweens? gradiations?

    hi,

as above audio files and images.

    what you can do is

first: in mx be sure to check to compression option in publishing.

secont: a uniqe developmant of swf optimizing tool.
the program can decrease the original swf size.

here is the link to the program.

    good luck
    piny
    expect the unexpected.
    that's what mx is all
    about.

Tweens add up to more file size compared to using actionscript.

Put any images in photoshop and save them as low as you can with stil good enough quality.

Script generally will not use up mutch room.

Embeded fonts add up to bout 20k's extra , only embed the charactors you need to use.

Stream sound from a separate file , sound can be big evan a loop stream it in if it's over 20-30 k.

I never use a picture higher then 10 k in most cases if i can help it unless it for a special reason for a large background or something.

Lot's of tweens and alpha fades seem to add up the K's.

If your using a pick and only half of its seen take it into photoshop and trim it up and re-save it as a new jpg, that can cut your file size dramatically sometimes.

Now those are great tips but double compression?

I have heard that u should let Flash do the compressing for you. Save the pics out in Photoshop at say quality 50 ( perhaps do it in Image Ready for a better compression) then go to Flash and do the optimizing in the properties setting in the Library.

If you double compress too much, for instance save out a pic from photoshop as a JPG with very low compression say a 110-16 quality and the n try to compress in Flash, you wont get much of a difference.

Also, does the number of frames in a swf contribute to file size. I have notice on occasion that if you lower the number frames in your movies ( frames with nothing on them) your files will get little lower.

    thanks!
