Admittedly, this was complete inspired by Kenya, BUT check it out anyhow (at various times in the day/morning/night) or press a key on the keyboard.. :P

    HaHa! Willoughby that's cool!
His head looks quite 3D aswell

Though please put a bit more effort into the backgrounds, they spoil it to be honest.

Oh and for those who were wondering, 'Kenya' is a weebl animation found on this site.

I would post my latest work but pooon said to keep it a surprise (tis for the channel surfing project which, btw, you should all take part in).

Haven't stopped by here for a while, now that I have, thought I'd share a little.

Was failing my chem course, so for extra credit, my teacher offered me to make a video on kinetic energy and atmospheric pressure. Without further adue{sp?},

Made in Flash, some 3DS max work, and PS for the dust and scratches. Cool Edit for the voice overs.

Nice one Fospher, I like that old film effect you used.

This is part of my art coursework, it's a little odd but was just experimenting with walk cycles and optical illusion.

My involvment with animation is purely from the sound angle. I provide voices and noises to a variety of projects from my project studio. I have been working with a very talented Flash Animator named James Farr. I have recorded and directed dialogue for his series Xombie. I am the voice of the Xombie named Dirge.

I also do some Sound Designs for this series. I create special sound effects and amibiences.

I'm familiar with the xombie series. Fantasic job Geoff. Thats one thing that most animators don't focus on is a proper sound track. No matter how great your animation is, if it sounds like dirt, it'll reflect on the overall presentation.

    Hey Geoff,

The Xombie stuff is really nice.. and I think the sound is some of the best parts of it..

Quick question, what was your process with the sound? Did you complete the soundtrack before animation began? Or was it all going together at the same time?

    Hi Radar,

James and I have only ever met online and talked on the phone. He lives a long way away from me. He sends a script to me and I direct and record the voices. In the case of Xombie it's only two voices so far. But if you watch episode three you can see that the next installment will introduce and new character. James works on back grounds and non dialogue sequences while I do the audio components then when I submit my audio he adds the mouth movements to go with the dialogue. I don't see any of the episode before I record. On other projecs we have worked on together he will send me pictures of the characters for which I am providing voices.

Hey Geoff, thanks for the reply!

Do you record the dialog as separate files? Like each line is its own mp3, or do you record the entire thing as one big track..

    thanks again...

    Hi Radar,

I record each character separately. Then edit them together with sound elements that the scence requires. I post the finished file to a page for download as a single file. For xombie we use an MP3 encoded to 320 Kbits.

    My Latest Effort....

Well, I've really had my nose to the grindstone for the last month working on this thing. It's really my first attempt at a larger scale flash cartoon. I think it's around 3 minutes or so.

I'm pretty happy with the results. I think I pulled off a few cool cinematic visuals in it. It's also the first preloader I've ever made. I'm sure I could have polished it more, but I just felt I needed to cap this thing off and be done with it so I can move on to other stuff. My biggest regret is making it 12 fps. It just seemed like one big nightmare to go back and make it 24 though.

BTW, it's based on a single frame cartoon I did when I was in high school about 14 years ago. It's about 3 meg in size, so it might take a little bit of time to preload....Enjoy!

Funny stuff Radar, and some nice quality animation too- Especially the ship.

I haven't posted much recently, and I've been pretty out of it animation-wise... But I forced my self to animate something.

It's not great, but here it is

Radar: nice work Aliens that look like fire hydrants...hhmmm I'll never look at a fire hydrant in the same way again!
well there isn't any in England that I know of anyway...

    Fiddle: Really nice slow-mo

I really should do some more animating soon, maybe next week...

Thanks for the comments Olly and Fiddle...

How do you guys plan your stuff out? I did this one in a very traditional way with an actual storyboard animatic.. check it out:

    Defender Storyboard

It really helped me plan my story and stuff.. I eventually added sound to the storyboard and changed the timing of the scenes.. but I stayed pretty faithful to my original plan.. which was good because I usually get off task easily without a visible end.

The story board itself was pretty cool..
As for me, and I'm sure this is pretty appearent in my animation, what with the lack of plot and such, I don't do story boards.. I use to, but I never seemed to stick to em'.

Ok here we go I decided I'd better get on with my coursework so I built a menu for all my past walk cycles and did a dog one too
    http://aim2win.bizland.com/ollyart/menu.html
The dog one is suppossed to show the line of action in each frame of the animation, though doesn't quite fit lol
Though it's done from a diagram on a disney animators website so...

    Nice storyboard radar
I sometimes have a plan of what I'm doing though I've never actually written one down or anything. Mainly because most of the time I don't stick to the original plan anyway
But I usually just make it up as I go.
