    Fdisk....where to get it

ok it is me again, my friend "got rid" of me and installed 2000 pro but when we check the HD it says that 12 gigs are used...meaning that me is still on this HD somewhere!...sooo using fdisk(by the way where do i get that again?) can i delete the ME partition...ok now he says that 2000 said that it couldn't delete the partition when he was installing it...so using fdisk can i get rid of silly me and free up some space...

it's a built in command. run via a CMD prompt.

can I suggest NOT using it? You seriously can mess up your drive that way. and if you did your install correctly, it's not really there. just delete the WinME listing from when it boots via the advanced properties when you right click on my computer.

ok. are you saying that you did, or did not overwrite the WinME partition?

however, you're booting off something. honestly, I truly hate giving advice like this for no other reason that it's widely available on the web, and I don't like being the person you can immediately blame.

anyway, here's the deal. right click on my computer. choose manage. then within that, Computer Management, go to Disk Management. Then expand it. Select your hard drive. you can now visually see all of the partitions on your hard drive. the one that's not your booting partition, you can right click on it, and quick format. give it a drive letter, and be done with it.

fdisk, at your present knowledge level - not trying to be mean - is not adviseable. again, no disrespect meant.

    hope that helps you.

the menu I was talking about was right click my computer > properties > startup properties > startup list (uncheck show list)... that's only if you didn't have a still existing partition, and you only have a boot menu item pertaining WinME. it's just a record in your MBR - master boot record - that's still showing WinME. that will stop that from happening.

    Win > Run > CMD
    FDISK /MBR

    Hurrah - fixed

Although in 2k you really shouldnt need it as it reads FATx Partitions.
Only time I needed that was when an old EXT2 PArtition wouldnt eff off

yeah, was gonna say it won't work on recently converted NTFS volumes either.

but... isn't what you said what I said above about the fdisk being utilized via a CMD prompt?
