Insanity is just a point of view. After all, the world looks pretty normal through your own underpants.

That looks amazing! Looks like a temple, or fort, or castle was built in the caves. I didn't read any of the text along with it, so don't make fun of me.

I won't make fun...but yes, they look amazing. So big and the first one was excavated and built around the 1st century.

Many of the caves house panels depicting stories from the Jatakas, a rich mine of tales of the several incarnations of the Buddha. Images of nymphs and princesses amongst others, are also elaborately portrayed. The 29 caves were built as secluded retreats of the Buddhist monks, who taught and performed rituals in the Chaityas and Viharas. Using simple tools like hammer and chisel, the monks carved out the impressive figures adorning the walls of these structures. Exquisite wall – paintings and sculptures speak volumes of the India of yore.

i had been there once.....but i was pretty young that time and wasn't really interested..

we(my family) actually din't plan to go there in the first place... we just went for a 15 min. boat ride.. but landed up in the wrong boat... and we had to go all the way till the caves.. which took an hour... and another hour to come back.... since we din't have much time.. i think we had only a 5 min. glimpse of the caves!!

I've been there, it really is a stunning place, it's also quite a walk through history. The most impressive temple was near the end, a wall at the back of the cave had been roughly chipped to reflect light that came from a fissure near the top of the wall, I was lucky enough to be there as the sun passed over head and the cave was dancing with light.

they're relatively close to mumbai, though I went there straight from poona.

    very memorable trip
