Under the influence
Decent hip hop/rap
I have only recently started listening to some hip hop / rap (whats the difference?) and I was wondering if anyone knows any good songs or favourites that I could download and listen to.
Go for it!

That list might discourage you, so there are two labels I'd recommend checking out. Any artist on www.definitivejux.net and www.anticon.com has a very unique style. Buck 65 is also something to set apart. That being said, anyone on that list is worth looking into.
Have fun.

Always Twirling Toward Freedom
The way I see it is, rap is what you hear on MTV, its very mainstream. Hip-hop is the underground stuff and usually involves a lot of turn-tablism. For hip-hop your best bets would be:
Quannum (I changed my mind)
Buck 65 (Pants on fire, square 3)
DJ Shadow (mashin' on the motorway)
Deltron 3030 (3030, virus, things you can do)
People Under the stairs (acid raindrops)
The streets (turn the page)

RAEKWON (from WU TANG)
THE LOST BOYZ (awesome)
