try winamp it's a pretty good one
otherwise just get a pda it's much better can do more and for 150 you can really get a decent pdawith some extra memory.

it wil hold one song with the size of 128 mb
no seriously it depends on the size. but on average you can say it holds about 8000 seconds of music on 128 kbit per sec.

the ipod just came with a new version, but i guess you can buy the old version from ebay or some retail stores at a cheaper price (i guess so, the old version is quite good and must be cheaper than the new i guess).
Also, i've seen lots of cdplayers that let you play cd-r with mp3's. One cd=700MB, i just bought a JWIN, it costed me about 60 USD (here in Ecuador) and it also has a radio. It's worked great so far.

Save your money for an iPod. I have a 10 GB iPod, and it holds over 2,000 songs. Cost me 300 bucks.

dude, I would say go for the Philips HDD100, but it's 399.99, same as the iPod 15gb.
check out here for a killer listing of mp3 devices.

Lunch is for wimps.
keep in mind that every mp3 player is marketed as the "iPod killer" or "rio's answer to the iPod" or "this year's iPod"...
if you don't want to buy the best, then just buy a rinky dink 128 mb player for a buck twenty five..
