    forums without a database ??

I just had this nice little app pointed out to me on one of the SWiSH community sites....

    http://www.liteboards.com/

...PHP board software that needs no database, no configuration, no fiddling with chmod settings..

some clever people out there in the big world..

pffft, you still need a computer and internet connection to view it.

As your (self-appointed) agent, I would advise against this - you need to go TV.

    Get out there, be seen.

Holy cow, run for the Democratic nomination!

If every American member of Flashkit registers Democratic and votes for you, you'd probably beat any other candidate.

I'm guessing hat this is only because it has about 300 posts. Once that gets into the millions, it's bound to slow down. What is the back end if it doesn't use a data base? I saw it mention gzip so I'm guessing that it's compressing something, but what? well organized text files?

I'm curious how it would do with Millions of posts also.

I assume its using Gzip on the text in the threads.

Intresting nonetheless. If you aren't expecting milions of posts then this probably makes sense.

yeah, I don't think those sorts of boards are really designed with that sort of market in mind really. I've come across a couple in my time, invisionboard have a flatfile board which is very similar in look and feel to their main board and it's primarily aimed at people who don't have a host which offers mysql.

    Neat board though

http://www.phpbb.com/ It requires some sort of Relational DB.

Many "webmasters" do not have the abilty to configure or install things on the server. So basically the guy paying $10.00 a month for web hosting probably wouldn't be allowed to install MySQL, Firebird (Not the Mozilla Browser but the SQL Relational DB) http://firebird.sourceforge.net/ , or anthing else of that sort so it would have to be there already. Likwise they probably would have dificulty instaling and configuring their DB anyhow.

Thats sweet. must be GZIPed text files or the like, the only other way I can thonk of is if they embed the post in the actual page itself, but that sounds a bit weird!
