exporting a section of a SWF as a jpg?

Someone asked me the other day if it would be possible to export a portion of a SWF as a jpeg. Is this possible? If so, how? Thanks a bunch.

actually, i meant from the movie itself, not the FLA. for instance, i'm on a web page, interacting with the SWF. i pick a few things, which graphically changes a portion of the SWF. now i want to export that portion to a JPG.

You mean like a screen capture?

Sounds very 'user sided' to me, something Flash does not support.

Or, maybe you could figure something with the print function, if, and only if, the print fuction takes an image of the movie before initiating the print action. If it simply prints from the movie (no middle action), then this idea is a non-starter. I've never researched this, but maybe you could have a search.

I just got to thinking that what you are looking to achieve might more easily be done with Director (the software that makes Shockwave product), as this application allows much more interation with a user's system.

Again, I'm a flasher, not familiar with Director, so it's just an idea.

thanks for the suggestion. i haven't been able to find anything that'll do what they're asking. i did think about using a SharedObject, but you'd have to write to the SharedObject in binary, and then know exactly how to "write" the graphic in binary...yeah, not happening.

i was told that they were able to export to a PDF, but he didn't say how they did it. thanks again.

As you probably know, exporting to pdf is useless if you want to interact with the image. Which is what you want to do, I would assume.

swf media browser can capture any picture in playing swf. But it can not capture the swf playing in the web page.
You can browse the IE cache, and find the swf.
    three format supported. BMP,JPG,WMF
