I want to make $$$,$$$$
I'm very interested in how much can be made off of the web.
* What do you do?
* What brings high amounts of traffic / income?
* How much is made a year?
you can email me at shni23@yahoo.com or MSN me @ XxXxXx_snake_XxXxX@msn.com if you prefer, rather than posting here.
A friend (that I somewhat trusted) said $4000 a year is what I would be looking at if I continued a career in web design (to include flash) (although I do plan on learning programming / php and other code languages inside and out) And this highly $%*#@ me off!!
Plz tell me what can be (and the path) ..... if devoted

if you've banked all this loot how come you've been on this board asking people to donate cash???

I read a very good book recently that I highly recommend. It's called Cashflow Quadrant. The idea is that you make money in one or more of the following "quadrants":
1. Employee
2. Self-Employed
3. Business Owner
4. Investor
Now as an employee or self-employed web designer, $60,000 may be achievable. Unless you're really good and the industry turns around, I don't see $100,000 as very likely.
The point of the book is that the business owners and investors are the ones who make the most amount of money (and pay the least amount of taxes). The affliiate program mentioned here would be one example of a business -- a system that you work on instead of in.

what skills and qualifications do you have that an employer would want to offer you 60 grand?

I'm looking to be a "self-employed web designer" erova. Mostly self tought but going to school soon. I do have some skills that would be marketable now. Was trained in military to install/operate tactical line of site networking. Among several other networking systems. (MSE // Cellular internet) Friends w/ the same training as I have walked into 50k-60k jobs. I'm going to have to move for a job like that. And I would prefer a career in web design if it'll all work out.
Thx, for the recommendation on the book, johntabita. I may check into it further ... but it seems like a scam book that answers questions that everyone already knows. It very well could be a good book .. but I have a hard time beliving "How I got rich" books ... I keep thinking "Yeah you got rich off all the ppl that bought your book, and thats it"
hurricaneone, yeah ... moving to were the action is ... seems to be in my future.
thx

i was also wondering about this subject..and have come to the conclusion:
read all you can.....buy/dl/install and practise any (all the best tools flash/swish,photoshop etc...) and all the best programs...it seems to me that without the tools you aint gonna be going no-where....read and try all tutorials related to web-design and gfx, practise HTML,ASP,PHP among other languages.....now when ya feeling comfortable with all that apply for a few jobs (even if ya aint qualified for them or know ya aint gonns get them), this will give you some good insight to what employers are looking for and what they may expect from you, then go away and practise read, read, read, and learn......All these "get rich quick" schemes in my experiance aint very good (just my opinion here), the only way ya gonna be earning that sort of money is through hard work and a bit of education....visit these types of boards, dl the stuff and practise. Now do some stuff for FREE for ppl (maybe on forum boards or local companies), this will give great lessons in actually doing something for someone (other than friends/family) who wont tell that your work is good, even if its crap......by doing some stuff for FREE you can put them into your portfolio also, now "new" employers will see your work. Another good tip would maybe make some leaflets about yourself/company/website and post them in your local buisnesses and newspapers.
im sure there are other tips and things you/we could do (i'm in same situation as you) to get work as a web-designer, but these are what i have been doing for the last 1 yr or so, and now i got a few ppl interested in me....
Anywho hope this helps ya and good luck with your career,
DH
P.S i have seen some website offering "web design" and have made stuff on what looks like WYSIWYG crap programs, so their maybe hope for ua all yet.....LOL
Learning something.....somewhere..somehow...someday

Thx, for the recommendation on the book, johntabita. I may check into it further ... but it seems like a scam book that answers questions that everyone already knows. It very well could be a good book .. but I have a hard time believing "How I got rich" books ... I keep thinking "Yeah you got rich off all the ppl that bought your book, and thats it"
I know what you mean. I used to be skeptical of anything that smacked of that. I now realize if I'm not rich yet, it seems foolish not to take some advice from those who already are.
All these "get rich quick" schemes in my experiance aint very good (just my opinion here)
I agree. The book I recommended is anything but that. The author actually calls it a "get rich slow" program. He doesn't give any "how to" techniques, but rather attempts to change the reader's mindset about how money is made. If fact, he specifically addresses what you said next:
the only way ya gonna be earning that sort of money is through hard work and a bit of education
If this is so, then why aren't employees the richest people? They are the most educated and work the hardest. It's because all that education and hard work makes their employers rich.
The vast majority of wealthy people -- from Steve Jobs to Ted Turner -- were high school or college dropouts. I'm not saying that they don't work hard or are ignorant. But they obviously have some sort of "education" that we don't.
