Has to be tied between Oscar Wilde, Chuck Palahnuik, and Bret Easton Ellis.

    If not Langston Hughes, Hemmingway.

Hemmingway, for a homophobic alcoholic, he did good.

Ah, what I wouldn't give to go on a weekend bender with him.

    Love his writing!

I have many faves - I'll go, however, with Nikos Kazantzakis. I started reading his work when I was much younger, growing up in Greece and France.

I haven't read his books in English yet which I'd like to do.

conan doyle rocks, I've read every holmes story

my favourite author is Graham Greene, simply superb writing, nuance and character. Paul Auster would probably be my favourite writer but his latter novels are veering towards mark twain territory, a long way from the sublime austerity of his early writings.

    Timeline was great!

I heard about the movie! Think its coming out this fall, saw the previews, had all the wrong actors playing the characters.

How can I pick just one?! For fiction I lean towards Margery Allingham and Herman Hesse, for nonfiction I'd have to say Douglas Hofstadter (GEB) and Jared Diamond (Guns,Germs,Steel)
