    how do they do this....?

this is a slick idea for a banner/pop-up....

if you visit www.nasdaq.com (not sure if this only works from the homepage or not)...but if you change to a different URL after the browser changes to your new URL selection, a banner from NASDAQ appears. now to the average net idiot viewer...this may seem like an annoyance derived from your "second" URL selection. when it's actually loaded from NASDAQ site. ...sometimes it works...sometimes it doesn't?????

i'm not trying to mimic it (the animosity i have towards pop-ups) but i couldn't think of how they did it.

    any ideas??

is there a difference between a banner and a pop-up?

Pop-up is a window, that pops up a banner is usually an advertising image placed on the site.

To do that (a pop up, that shows up, when you close the page, you have to call it on Unload something like:

    PHP Code:
    <body onUnload="javascript:window.open(url,winName,'width=300, height=100')"

    thanks....

Will the banner load if someone changes from /index.html to /bio.html?

I was curious if there is a way to set that OnUnload to activate from any submenu...(not sure I'm explaining this too well)

    for instance...

user goes from www.espn.com/shows to www.espn.com/bios (pop up does NOT load)

but if user goes from www.espn.com/shows to www.yahoo.com (pop up does load) or a submenu from espn.com --> www.espn.com/blah to www.journals.com (pop up does load)

does the OnUnload function take that into consideration?

    thanks...
