    Hi,

Can anyone advise me where I can find some free After Effects 5.5 beginners tutorials online?

    Thanks, Steve.

Thanks mate, some vvery useful links there...

Can anyone give me a brief but specific summary of the advantages of using AE over Flash for putting together video montages? I think AE 6.0 is out of my price range and was wondering if I could make do with Flash MX.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Steve

    You can certainly make do.

AE has pretty much the same advantages a raster program has over a vector program... You will generally have more flexibility with lighting effects, blurring, 3D renders, etc. AfterEffects is often described as Photoshop for video. BUT by doing everything in Flash you will be able to take advantage of instancing your bitmaps, resolution independent vector graphics, and easier integration with other content (in most cases).

If you are not delivering your animation online, the advantages of Flash are fewer... In that case it depends on the workflow you prefer or are accustomed to.

Do you recommend Flix over After Effects for vectorizing video and importing into Flash?

I haven't used flix. But you can't vectorize video using AfterEffects.
