3D car race demo
howdy y'all
i have just finished a 3D car race demo based on
Senocular's 3D car race tutorial over at kirupu.com
Any comments.. It is by no means anything near properly
finished..
hopefuly one day i might be able to get it to turn corners. LOL
anything i might do to enhance it ?
where do i go from here ?
thanks in advance..
oooppss the url..

it's a good start. You might want to lower the point of view, your eye level, (aka horizon or vanishing point) should be the same as the eye level of the other cars. With the cars going underneath the view, it looks like you're driving a bus.

NIce nice, always nice to see Action Scripters from Australia.

slight:
it took me a while to get my head around what you said..
(must be me and 3D visualisation problems.)
but i now get it.. lower the y value for the origin...
yup,
i will try it.. thanks...
but then again maybe a bus would be good, or a crane like
terminator 3....(how cool was that ?)

cool work!
this is an animation of a car viewed by a panning camera from right to left.

mabey you could calcualte the position of the cars on the road relative to the player and then goto that frame. i think this might give the viewer another reason to suspend dis-belief.

You mean you dont believe it !! LMAO
ok. blink.. Yeah i get what you mean... if it is on the left of
the road ,have it go to left-side frames..
and vicey versy.. hmm.. more mathe-bloody-matics....
I could calculate the number of frames i have in my side-ish view
and divide by how many z's i am up to..yip
i will give it a go..
thanks..
slight:
i changed the horizon line... is that what you mean..?
thanks to all
lots of fat to chew on..

you have to consider the position of the player as well. if the player is in the ceter of the road then cars on the left or right will appear the same only flipped accross the horizontal.
if the player is on the left then cars on the left will appear head on and cars on the right will appear kinna side on.
if you do this and the animation tends to "click" when the player moves then just post a message here and i will post an animation will a smaller movement granule.
ps: i suspended my belief in anything long ago!

eh, thats not quite what i meant.. this page *might* help:
http://www.saveloomis.org/fun/99.htm
in terms of your game, it's probably better explained like this:
the point that the cars scale around should be in the center of the car from left to right, but at the eye level of the driver from top to bottom. then, when you scale the cars up as they get closer, dont move their Y coordinates at all, just scale them up using the eye level as the scale center, and it will look natural. of course, this will mean you cant drive through them, or they'll fill the whole screen. you need to find the scale that looks right for a collision, and either remove them at that scale or do the collision.
i'll make a quick demo to show what i mean...

here it is the demo:

i will have a look at your fla ..
i still cant visualise it..
I can sorta get the theory but it is not clicking
when i have a look at the maths it will help i am sure...
once again.. thank you very much..
go the knights!

slight:
i got what you mean.. i made the eyepoint up about 200 pixels
and hopefully is right ...
blink:
I got what you mean and i have 3 frames and if the x pos is less
than blah then i show the right side of car..
if xpos > blah + 100 then i show left side of car..
all else show back of car...
`
i got a sexy 3D car model and used gmax to do a coupla screen captures
for the car views..
`
anyway, thanks to all especially slight and blink , ok ?
