animating faded line circle

I am trying to duplicate this http://noeink.com/cobalt/intro.htm

If you notice the circle is wavy. I did not make this one and am having a hard time figuring out how do this. I have the basics of the word animations and the introduction of the black ball. Just cant seem to get the circle drawn. Have tried many ways and none seem to work. Any ides would be great.

looks like simple shape tweening of lines there. read up on it in flash help.

That looks like something you could do with a mask. Draw the full circle, and then put a mask layer on top of it. Grow or move the mask in a way that uncovers the circle in a sequential way. On top of the mask, put a shape filled with an alpha gradient that covers up the circle line as the mask reveals it.

I'm sure that's just one way to do it.

I must be an idiot b/c I cannot get either way to work. I hate asking, but could either of you elaborate a tad more on your recommended method.
