    About fonts in a movie

if the user or visitor of my site doesn't have the fonts i used in my movie... will my text still appear in the font i originally used?

the way you tell flash to embed fonts is different between flash 5 and flash mx - not sure what the details are, but your users should see the correct fonts in mx. static text boxes should embed the fonts used automatically. the best way to know is to delete fonts on your system that your swf file uses - then view the swf and see if it's missing those fonts.

yes :-( as a general guideline each embedded typeface will add 20k to your .swf (not sure about MX04 though)

    cheers

So if i do use one font for all the text, then theoretically, i'll only have 20k added to the size of my file, right?

but will the type of font matter to the size added?

yes, that's right. the reason I stated 20K as a rough guideline is that the actual amount added depends entirely on the filesize of the font you're embedding. 20K is about the average based on experience working with mainstream fonts. Some of the popular pixel fonts eg. may be half that size while a delicate anitique-styled font may be double that size. So it really is a matter of trying each font out.

hope that clears up things somewhat :-)

    oh by the way....

what if i intend on getting my text from an outside source, meaning the textbox will be empty until then... will the font still be embedded?
