Can swift3d do this easily?
Hi
I'm thinking about purchasing swift3d to creat and use an animated characture in my web site like the one at http://www.neostream.com and was wondering if this application would be a good tool to do this with.
Thanks

yes, that would be simple to accomplish and i think swift is the right buy -- it the animations are simple. Complex animations can only be achieved with time.

If you want to create a complex character like at neostream then i would maybe suggest Plasma or 3d studio max(with swift plugin).
But if you are looking to make a simple character and stay on the cheaper sideThen animate it then i would stick to Swift 3d.
EDIT: Just took another look at the neostream splash page, You could create that in Photoshop and animate it with the incorprated Image Ready with not much trouble

I really would like to see you doing this kind of character animation in Swift.
You will definitely need a 3d software with some organic modeling tools.

(i did not make this, but it was done in swift)
you havent seen much advanced swift have you?
many insane things have been done, and i think this particular think could be done with the lathe editor and some ais done in flash

I have seen a lot of awesome Swift work. But still, you will never be able to model organic shapes and deformations.

yea, but as i said, you could simulate these good enough with the lathe editor. The animations werent that complex.

Maybe Swift3D v4 will allow more modeling? I hope so.
You can get it pretty colse using swift, but it will not be as smooth as the original without an advance 3D program.
Give it a shot, amaze us!

swift 3d cant do organic but it can make some really kool robots havent seen any realistic organic work from swift yet.
-
ok, not very realistic, and sloppy animation, but for 10 mins and a swift semi-noob, i dont think its bad, but i think that you can get by with sopmething like this
animation is bad!
but check it just as an example, i have the t3d if needed

acctually, i looked at this and decompiled it and Daniellawson is right, the alien was drawn in photoshop, then the moving arm was made in flash and animated, no 3d at all!

lol 3ds exports as a sequence of bitmap images which are used for the animation its animated in 3ds max. If you decompile something its not going to give you all the source files.
-
ahh my friend, you are incorrect.
i know i dont get all of the source files, but ok
look at this little flash, i broke down all the parts for you guys.

If im following this thread correctly, I see no reason why neostream would use a top end 3d modelling program to create the character on the splash page. The simplest and most efficient way would be photoshop and flash.
Only the splash tho

I just wanted to make a note that I really have enjoyed reading the posts in this thread that I started. Since posting I've been playing a little with swift 3D aand will probably need to buy the book to really take advantage of it. Just a quick thanks to all that have responded
