E-commerce site rates

Do you think that approximately $18,000 is a good quote for an E-commerce site with only one Flash piece on the opening page? (This doesn't include site maintenance which I quoted as $500 a month for a year.)

how many web pages will the ecommerce site have?

like 10-15, mostly from a template that I will design. 2 design rounds for the interface (based on the front page) that will be the design of the 2ndary page template.

The quote was actually higher than 18,000. Now that I look at the itemizations, etc. it's more like 19-20.

Products to be purchased, 50 maybe. All the same product though really...just with different colors, etc.

i think that is a good price personally. i actually sold my first ecommerce for much cheaper but i didnt realize how much they go for at the time. is this company a start up or established business?

what type of shopping cart are you using? one that your host provides?

I was gonna use Miva, through a host that I know. It's a start up with real backers.

I feel like it's low, but it's my first, so I want to secure the opportunity.

Do you mind me asking what you sold your first E-com site for?

I actually just found out that I didn't get it.

They wanted me to do it for 50% of that and 50% price sharing. Ugh.

well it was nowhere near 18 grand

i sold my first one for 3 grand and $100 a month, but it was not as big of a site as you are doing. i think there were only like 10 products. what are most ecommerce sites going for these days anyway?

It depends on what you can get people to pay!

I think that I can get him to take it at 11,000 or 12,000 w/o this price sharing whooey. Price sharing=toilet paper at the door on your way out.

hmm I think rates over here are waaaaaay lower... the most I ever asked was 1750 euro for a site...

well what city do you live in? New York City is expensive and somtimes costs account for that.

i think your price was kinda high but not that high depending on the company if it was a corporation or large company with a lot of business.....new york is the last place i would want to be doing web design because of their high cost of living so i see why you set your price at 18 grand.

the next ecommerce i sell will not be that high but i will get them for monthly maintenance since that will last longer

I sold my first Miva e-commerce site for $22K back in 2000.

Sold another Miva site last year (2002) for $17K.

Both companies had received lower quotes but confessed later to me that my professionalism had won them over. They were concerned about the future and maintenance of the site.

It helps that I come from a sales and marketing background so I know how to make a great presentation and a good impression.

I currently maintain all the e-commerce sites from my home studio.

Why so high you might ask?

You guessed it... I live in New York City.

whats your monthly rates and how many pages/products were the sites? over 15?

Yes they were way over 15 pages.

Electronics website has thousands of products and hundreds of pages.

The other website has hundreds of products and hundreds of pages.

The monthly fee is on a scale we devised as to what services they need done on that particular month. When the holidays roll around I'm on service just about 24 hours a day.

There's real money in e-commerce sites. I wish I did them. Easier to set them up for businesses inside the US of course.

The best way to sell e-commerce sites is to tell 'em the more they spend the more they get back. They don't know what the hell we're doing after all.
