    Design Chapel

Does anyone have any idea (what program) how this designer created these stylish cartoons out of the models on his site? :
    http://www.designchapel.com/

Or do you think he simple drew them with a stylus? If there is a program or plugin for Photoshop/Illustrator that does this I want it right now.

    Thanks

I've done such things in Flash, manually.

    Just used layers, and skill.

    Probably easier in Photoshop, manually.

Yes, but isn't there a program that traces images better than flash. Surely there must be one that does just this. Let me see some of the work you have done.

Don't know about any programs that do it on their own. If they do, I'll keep an eye on this thread . But as far as I did it...

It's all done by mouse. If I spent more time on it, I could make it better. Here's one of them.

The best example I could find was this. It's more animish, but if you work harder (this took me 5 minutes) and you use photoshop, you could do it alot better.

    The way I did it:

I made three layers. One with the original image (bottom layer), one with just lines (middle), the top one just colors.

To get the top layer, you will have to just duplicate the lines until your finished.

This is how I did it in Flash.

there are various methods of doing it, some involve plugin effects, but I'm willing to bet that all the really good quality ones you see are done by hand. In my experience there's never a shortcut to creating stuff of that quality, you just have to use practice, experience and talent.

you can use any vector app to do it, even flash, I forget the URL now but there's one famous vector illustrator that says he uses nothing but flash. Most people use something like freehand or illustrator. I've done a bit of this stuff in a vector app called xara x and virgo has the right idea, use layers so you can manipulate the different parts of the image.

Mind you, mine aren't high quality.

Just some quick stuff. I was bored.

I thought as much - nothing great comes easy as said by Aversion. I had secretly hoped there was some magical program for tracing vector cartoons from picures. Guess I'll be drawing tonight and for many more nights thereafter.

BTW - Virgo - that art you did in Flash is really good stuff

    Thanks.

I even animated some of it. But I don't know where it went.

Is that drawing of you? Do you find it easier using a stylus? Should I buy one?

Just a suggestion, but try reading the site. It tells you that you where to find a tutorial on making those illustrations. Although the tutorial isn't on the net, I'm sure if you really wanted it you'd buy a copy of the magazine.
