Mad-Sci Platformer ( work in progress)
Ok guys I thought it will be nice to have a new post so we can list the recent up-dates. I still think we should change the name of the game tho any ways here is what we have so far:
1. We had to deside on rules this will give us the idea about the ammount of movie clips and collision detections.
1)it will be 2D non-scroll platformer.
2)the hero can: run left, right, up (ladder) down(ladder), can dig holles in the ground (space)
3)the baddies will follow the same rule but cannot dig holes.
4) baddie can drop in the hole and get stuck there. In this case you can run over its head.
5) total 5 baddies.
6) collectibles: you will have main collectible like gold. You have to pickup all of the main collectibles to get to the new level.
7) bonus items: 1+ life, bonus score points.
8) the game will have 5 major worlds, each world will have 5 levels.

So far its me and Blink working on it however any one who wants to join is more thaqn wellcome.
Over the weekend I will post the level designer. Blink you can fish the rest of the backdrops. Quesiton are we going to use same tiles for all the levels or each level will have different tiles ?

The graphics blend together really nicely.
Original Loadrunner had only one tile. Color changing is always nice.
What will the baddies look like?

These links don't work... it takes the dots in the link itself..
Like the other GFX though, and the idea is great! I finaly remember what game this is, and I used to play it a lot

here's the map editor splash screen. sorry for the delay.
-------------------
in answer to your question;
i think there will be at least three tile sets.
-------------------
my questions/suggs;
1. are 24x24 tiles ok?
2. when mad-sci digs a hole, does he drop down as he clears each tile or does he dig from the side and stay on top?
3. do the characters need to be only 24 pix wide or can they be larger?
-------------------
links;

Right now i'm workin on mad-sci anims so it would be good if you could get back to me on the questions/suggs
-------------------
as mad said the more the merrier in fact it looks like a fair bit of work for tjust two at the moment.

Ok check this out:
http://mad-sci.lazoom.com/ms/map.swf
Blink surprised me with one tile set with 40 tiles and this is only for world 1, and we will have 5 worlds .
Still you cannot render or clear the field.
Blink any more backdrops and tiles
ms
UPDATE: now you can clear the field. After this you have to sellect tile set first to get new grid.

Hype over content...
Blink I always think of you as a sexy coder, and I forget how good you really are at 3D graphix. They look stunning.

BTW: I said that I will be giving some explanation on the fly .
So Blink send me one movie clip 24:24 with 40 frames each frame had one tile. He also mention that he will be doing 5 more sets like this one. So what I did was:
when you click on a tile set ( in this case "stone"):
Duplicate the tile stone so it forms a grid ( look to the right and also frame 1 is just an empty sqr) and they all are with _alpha=12 bellow them is the backdrop.
duplicate the same tile with a different name but this time use the depth variable as a frame pointer, thus you disperse the tiles so the user can sellect different ones. Now here is the trick: when you clink on a tile on the left side it simply sends its currentframe to the main time line, then when you click on a tile on a grid it just hops to the same _currentframe, if you click on the blank tile ( frame 1) it will paste a blank tile with _alpha=12 to the right. All of the above is actually in one function. When Blink sends me a new tile set I will use the same function with the same names and depths to build the grid and the tile sets. When I deside to render the stage as array I will use the very furst element to point to the correct tileset some lousy link list heh .

mad>> That way of making a grid of all the tiles, changing all their values, and having their onRelease change a main valuable is pretty much the only way to do an editor in my opinion, its the fastest, and the way I create my editors.
However, I always like to have the first tile in the tileset as a blank tile for this exact reason. You dont have to make any coding changes for tile0, but to make it able to be clicked on, you make it a clear block.
Also, its great to have your 'dropping' tiles, set up so that you use onMouseDown and onMouseUp to know if the user is holding the mouse down, and then changing the tile's frame when the mouse is down, allowing you to 'paint' tiles on, instead of clicking on every tile.

i just realised i gotta do the dig/hole tiles. i'll update the link later.i scaled doen the objects at the bottom coz i think the need to be in scale with the characters who will be small. i'll prolly do the same thing to the graveyard. the is no animation in the background but i'm workin on making those pictures catch fire.
