    AVI is TOO BIG!!

    Hi-
I am in the process of making a VCD of my swf files, but the avi that I export from Quicktime is HUGE and I am concerned that it won't fit on a cd when converted to MPEG.

Here is how I am doing it:

    1) I export my swf from Flash.
    2) I open the SWF in Quicktime Pro and export it as an AVI, no sound. In Quicktime, I am exporting using "No Compression, Best Quality and Millions of Colors+".
    3) I record the sound separately and save as a wav track.

I want to take the AVI and the WAV file and make an MPEG using TMPGEnc, but the file size of the AVI is over 1 GB (for only a 3 minute animation).

Will the MPEG be SMALLER, or do I have to reduce the AVI size? If so, HOW?

    Thanks for your help.

    -Rob

    Re: AVI is TOO BIG!!

    Hi there Rob

well I'm not entirely sure why you're eporting it to quicktime then from quicktime to AVI
why not export it as AVI directly from flash?

then get this program VirtualDub, it does wonders with compression of AVI files, and you can add a sound file from an external wav file too, it gives nice compressions, depending of course on the codecs installed on your machine

beware it's a processor hog though

    hope that helps

    Thanks

Thanks for your help!! I'll give that a try. I export to Quicktime and then as an avi because I have a few movie clips in the fla. Also the sounds in the fla, when exported as an avi, ignore the event actions, giving me a mess.

Thanks for the tips on Virtual dub---I'll give it a whirl!!

    Best,
    Rob

to succesully exportan FLA to AVI directly you have to had it planned previously, so that all your actions and frames and movieclips are on the main timeline only, as it exports the root movieclip alone, and you have to set all your sounds to stream too

I see what you're doing, there's no turning around it unless you remake all your FLA's with the previous points in mind

a VCD plays in any DVD player right?
    so,
what is the final format of the movies? AVI? is that all.
and it plays on a DVD player?
what about the interface of the VCD
what program would you use, on a PC?
    to make it,

No. your player must say that, not all players can.

It has to be mpeg-1 352X240 @29.97 fps for NTSC.

what about the interface of the VCD

    to make it,
Im sure there must be more complicated and better things but i use nero for that.

Hi, i thought pizzini's software was great. but it wasnt what i expected. I cant convert swf's to avi directly.. I have to make images first then convert. and thus, my SWF's audio isnt included.
