Setting up a web design company

I'm almost done my course, and I have been researching online about companies that have been started up..one thing really confuses me, is the amount of competition that is out their, how can anyone really compete against the big companies that are out their?, already established.?is it all about who you know?

also question, with monetary flow, do businesses tend to lease computers more often then out right buying them?

I would suggest working for an established company first. Especially if you are younger. Dump a few years at a company and pay attention. You will learn everything you need.

At 28 U are a lot younger than U realize... a seasoned, well experienced young person... even better than plain young.

... also, I have built my career freelancing for the big guys out there... I don't compete against them... I work for them.
How? Specialization... I developed skills that they sometimes need but can't afford the time to learn for themselves.

was thinking the same thing, specialising in what people or companies need..if you cant beat them, why not join them?

A couple things I've learned over the years.

1. The next couple of years are going to happen either way, you will either have something to show for it or you wont, it's up to you. Might as well have some experience with the pros.

2. Unlike most drains on society, we actually offer something people actually need. Unlike car sales, you will actually come to the rescue of your clients so it's not inconsiderate to pedal your services.

3. As long as there's money, businesses will need art.

4. If your established, the big clients come to you.

i feel like smaller companies have an edge on big companies especially if you dont have to pay for things like office space, etc. you can easily find out the big dogs rates and cut them - of course make sure your work is just a stight or tighter than theirs.

28 is a good age, people take u more serious. i'm 26 and it has helped more than hurt my company.
