    think i've killed my trackball

    i got one of these:

The blue ball just sits on top, not fixed or anything.

It was sticking a bit, no problem with the rollers underneath so thought i'd give it a clean, grab the glass cleaner, give it a good wipe....

    oh dear

now it moves in its little socket with all the smoothness of a brick being dragged through sand.

    help

    Amonia + plastic = bad.

That's why you don't use glass cleaner on plexiglass or your LCD.

    Sucks.

If you invest in some smoke and mirrors, you could use your 'crystal' ball to start a whole new career as a fortune teller down in Covent Garden.

Personally, not a fan of the trackball. Feel there's less precise control.

    Anyone else?

Give the company a ring. They probably won't replace it but it can't hurt to call. You never know.

Yeah, I love mine. I used to have one where the left mouse button was on the side for the thumb, and the middle and right buttons where on top.

No one could use that thing. They could never find the left button.

I thought of it as a bit of added security

I now have one of these

works great as long as I keep it clean

DOH! The old acrylic + amonia miracle. I found that one whilst cleaning me biznong once. The thing just crumbled to pieces literally.
Reminds me of a funny story. I was working at a pre-press house once and we needed a new op. for our drum scanner. One of the sales idiots insisted we hire some kid he knew.
His first day he went to clean the drum (which is a cylinder about as big as a 2 liter bottle made out of .5 inch thick acrylic. He was holding it over a garbage can and squirting alchohol on it. Needless to say the garbage can is right where it ended up. And he didn't make it past lunch.

how did the ball in the mouse evolve? really..I know that microsoft had scroll button in the middle of both mouse click buttons..its different getting adjusted to the ball...just like its different for double click mouse users to adjust to the single mouse click ie..macintosh.

Unless like most mac users you use a 2 button anyway.
