    Image fade-out with Photoshop 7

Hello, I'm working with Photoshop 7, and I'm trying to make an image with fade-out at the end of it.
Do I need to have a filter for this action, or I can use the original tools that I allready have?

Use Quick Mask Mode and draw a black-to-white gradient over the area you want to fade out. Then get out of Quick Mask mode and you will have a transparent/fading selection that you can use to delete the portion of the image you want to fade out.

Masking is the best option, but if you dotn want to delete the faded part (maybe you need to move it later on or change the aspect) Just add the mask in the layers palette and draw the B/W gradient. That way you can fade the image and still keep the image intact beneath the mask.

You know I keep hanging on to that technique where I will copy the layer and delete portions of it to make it transparent. It's a hold over from the days before I got into layer masks. nightwish is correct in recommending the use of layer masks rather than deleting portions of the image. It is the more flexible method of manipulating the transparency of a given layer. You can always modify the mask or discard it altogether if you want to do something different. Old habits die hard.
