Can someone explain to me how flash deal with the quality of bitmaps?

I am a bit confused. If I save a bitmap using photoshop and save for the web...it tells me how much memory that file is.

Then I bring it into flash. But then it seems that flash optimizes it again, and has it's own universal jpeg setting, in the publish settings section?

What is going on? Could you explain this to me?

I'm here, why? You don't see me yet?

hi, the best way to import and deal with pictures in Flash is JPG.format. So you don't need to save them as bitmaps. Additionally when one pictures is imported in flashMX if you open Library nad there double click file you'll see dialog box (bitmap properties)that offer couple options for quality of pictures. Under compression option you can leave as flash recomand you to decrease the size of file, but you will have much lower quality, and lossless without losing of quality but it increasing the file much more than you can assume. Any way get you test and you will see.
    i hope this help
