Effect in Photoshop

Hi can some one please tell me how I could get the below effect iusing photoshop?

Hi at a guess its done using photoshop brushes, or using scans of textures

if quickly made this as an example all it is, is a blue shape then using the eraser tool i just rubbed out the blue leaving the white beneath

there used to be a great site Nocturna, seems to be down or finished

but heres another link to some grunge brushes (you can make your own)

Could you get a similar effect by scanning in an old piece of paper and then fiddling with transparency levels?

Hi i have read of ppl putting sand and hair on scanners and scanning it in to create random styled brushes, also another of mine is to photocopy an image, then photocopy it again and again until u get grain dirt random splodges etc

there are loads of ways to make brushes, photos, fax machines.....
