Flash MX Actionscripting: Advanced Training from the Source, by Derek Franklin and Jobe Makar, has worked wonders for me.

Ditto. That one has more examples and hands-on uses.

How much is this "Advanced Training" book?

And how does it compare to Actionscripting in Flash MX by Phillip Kerman?

Not sure about the one by Phillip, but in any case you are lookin at $40 - $70 for a good one. ASDG is $60 and the one "from the Source" is $44 USD.
