    Thumbs down

I would like a small version of a search engine using flash. I only want to have about 100 links on it. I want also that each link has a small description on it, which will be inputted by me.
    How would I do it?
Is there a tutorial for it anywhere?

    Hope you can help

Try www.aspin.com. It has a search engine example and some other tutorials.

Do you want it COMPLETELY in Flash? Or are you going to use an external database?

I wouldn't mind it completely in flash.
But as flash can't handle loads of actions i don't mind using an external database.
As long that the actual application in the eyes of the surfer is completely in flash.

    Thanks once again

    Cool

When I said modify, I assumed that you already had some knowledge of asp and databases, if not then it might be a little difficult, sorry.

Yes, you could use cgi, but if your using a database then I wouldn't waste me time with cgi when you could use asp

IS there no way of doing it via a text file with all the links, descriptions and keywords on it. I only want about 100-150 links, not like a major search engine. And then the search would look through the text file and bring up the relavent info.
WHat if I had a seperate text file for the link the description and one for keyword?
Is there any way to make this work!!1

that is about all i can find right now, one for flash and one for js...
i think the one tutorial for flash would work for your needs if you just work with the downloadable files.
the rest would have to be done in PHP or ASP or some other.
modifiy Riff's guestbook or the many others available at FK by members...check the movies section or the tutorials section for downloads____ .FLA's available including scripts ect....

the js page is a script generator it will generate the scripts you need to add to your page just copy paste to a .txt file...that is if you want to use js?
from your post i gather you want to use flash...in that case just work with the tutorial i linked you to on FK
i think it will work for you.
anyway i will check back to this post tommorow to see if others can help.

i want the actual user interface to be in flash because the rest of my site is. But I don't mind the actuall info on an external text file.

COuld you give a small number of instructions telling me how to do this with the JS, if it is possible to do so with a flash interface.

    Thanks
    Much appreciated!
