log on issue

I'm wanting to create a log in screen (no password) that takes the
users name and stores it in a text file (or so acceptible format) so
that I can open a new html page with a swf set to recieve and
display the stored variables, or in other words, show me a list of
everyone who's logged on.

Where to start.....?

To do that the "right way", look into a flash/php/mySql setup with sessions!
A text file to hold passwords is a bad bad thing, security wise
