Hi, I work for a big faceless company and often I find my Flash ideas ect... are squished. Mainly because the bosses (Who have no expreience of flash, they just like the pritty pictures!) :¬) don't have enough forward vision.

Anyway... I was just wondering how many other designers face this same problem?

if they want eyecandy then give it to them.

I dont know how long you have been in the buisness but thats all part of the game. If you want to be a fine artist then you can count on being hungry. If you like to eat, then you have to do what the customer wants. You may not like it, I know I hate some of the stuff I do. But its their money and they can make changes as they see fit. I have gone as far as to tell customers not to tell anyone I did the work because I felt it was a poor design. But its their money and their image. If they want mindless garbage then thats what you give them. If you dont like the company you are working for then try and find a design firm that does the type and style of work you like. Chances are no matter where you go you are going to run into the same situation. Rare is the time I have ever found a suit that will leave the entire process to the designer. Hope this helps. Regards, Bill

P.S. if you feel you need to do some design work, maybe you could contact Flashcorps at http://www.flashlite.net they do probono work for non profit orgs.

I like to play with herring.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" ....or in this case, the eye of the person who is paying you.

    Markp, I share your pain.

Been working for a big company for a bit now, and its often discouraging how often you have to bite your tongue and quell your creative urges. I'm lucky to be working in a small group, therefore I can sometimes slip in some cool design and non-corporate Flash stuff. But it's usually squashed by miles of red tape and designers with zero-to-less web experience.

I think the Pope makes a real good point, tho. I do most of my best work outside of my "real job". Gotta pay your dues to be creative, it would seem (they pay my salary...), and perhaps doing some work for the site he suggests, or any sort of labor of love minus the pressure of deadlines and the sort, might be just the sort of thing you need.

I must be one of the lucky ones. I'm working for a small company where everyone is like family and my ideas are always taken into consideration. Of course, there are times when I have to do things a certain way, but most of the time my boss is up for suggestions and he's actually given me time to do my own thing and then show him to see if it can be incorporated. Of all the stuff I've done on my own, nothing has been turned down yet. If this keeps up, I'll be working with these people for a long time!
