1. ## Homework help!

Simutaneous equations:

x-y+1/12=0,
1/x-1/y-2=0

Solve.

Second question,

Solve x^2=5+2/x, giving solutions to 2 decimal places where necessary.

I want to know the working...

2. BUMP!

4. anyone!?

5. Damn...

6. One of the members here, XU1, really likes to solve mathematics problems, you should PM him and ask for his help.

7. but i need to hand this up tomorrow... damn

Why don't you Google some maths forums?

You surely can't do any worse than posting an algebra problem in a Flash development forum.

9. with simultaneous equations, solve for x in the first equation, plug it into the second equation, solve for y, plug into previous solution for x and check your answer.

With quadratic equation either use the quadratic formula or complete the square to solve for x.

if you can't understand me, then look it up in your algebra book.

for the first question, i came to -14=0... how come!?

11. Hi,

12. I don't know what you're doing, you should really be doing this on your own if you want to learn it.

I'll give one last hint, though
x = y-1/12
y = x/(1-2x)

Now, don't forget to show our work and how you got to what I just posted.

13. calpomatt, your working is wrong... you forgot to times x for -2

nevermind...

thanks for ur efforts anyway. i appreciate it

14. additional mathematic? in igcse? it will get harder

x-y+1/12=0,
1/x-1/y-2=0

x=y-1/12
1/(y-1/12)-1/y-2=0

1-(y-1/12)/y-2(y-1/12)=0

y-(y-1/12)-2y(y-1/12)=0

1/12-2y^2-2y/12=0

1-24y^2-2y=0

24y^2+2y-1=0

now use the quadratic formula to solve it. same with the next one

Yeah...I caught that after I threw it up there. Hoped nobody saw it before I deleted it....damn you! I'm sittin here studyin for a crazy Fluid Mechanics final and here I am making simple algebra errors. I'm scared.
