    hey guys!
i'm currently making zelda for flash. I have over 15 screens done, and the .swf weighs in at 45k. There are no monsters yet, but i am working on it. give it a spin (cursor keys control the character)and let me know what you think! I'm only leaving it up until I wake up tomorrow morning, and then i'm taking it down.

the majority of the screens that i have done are to the left of where you begin. consider wher you start row 8, column 1. don't go above column 2 or past row 9. if you do, the next screen will look exactly like the one you just left. in that case just press the cursor key to go back to the last screen

Not bad! Actually it's pretty good, but I do have one complaint. When you move the character from scene to scene he disappears for about 4 paces. What I mean is, for example, if you're going left, the character disappears before reaching the very edge of the screen and doesn't reappear until it's away from the edge on the next screen. You have to keep pushing the key in order to see it again. Otherwise, you're doing a great job!

good point. however, i actuall have him disappear on purpose. the reason being that it takes a few seconds for the next screen to draw itself. this will prevent a cursor happy person from going all the way across the next screen before it has even been drawn. i'll try to work around this.

in my tests, i'm not having to repeatedly press the key for him to appear- is there a bug? try waiting for about a secnd and a half and see if he appears. if not, let me know so i can fix the code.

    Chris,

Excellent! This is the sort of stuff I get excited about seeing being developed in Flash. I was curious (if you don't mind revealing some "secrets") if you have library items for the "sprites" and are constructing the stage out of instances, or if each screen in the grid is constructed as a whole.

Also, as you may or may not be aware, there are lots of tools on the web for "rom hacking", which would allow you to really get inside of the game and muck around, and maybe get a better understanding of how the graphics are set up, etc.

Anyhow, looks like a big but worthy undertaking. Best of luck, and be sure to keep us posted on the progress.
