bitmap to vector conversion

Just wondering if anyone can explain this - I had a jpg that I imported and then used trace bitmap to change to vector image - looked good, then I wanted to add black outlines to the bits of by tracing, but I can't work out if it's possible. I notice that clicking on the edge of a shape with pen tool creates all the paths I want black but it won't let me actually draw the lines, so i'm resorting to drawing all lines in by hand which is very slow - can anyone help??

hey richtea, from what i have seen the trace bitmap works well with images with minimal colors and variations - anyways the designer i work with uses Adobe Streamline for applications of what you are looking for - take a look here:

unfortunately i don't have much experience with this product, but from what i remember it was as easy to use, but smoother, as the trace bitmap function. check it out if you have time-i believe they have a free download.
