A Senior Newbie - How Odd
Who would pay more for a premium service of enhanced support/updates ?
All,
Following the sad posts on 'is 3DFA dead' I thought there seemed enough positive feedback to float this option and gauge public opinion.
Question is:
Would you be prepared to pay more for enhanced support and updates on top of what we get today?
If so, how much:
a. No I wouldn't
b. Up to $20 a year/major upgrade
c. Up to $40 a year/major upgrade
d. More than $40 a year/major upgrade
Maybe this poll will help encourage the developers to find a way to resurrect user confidence, and make the product maintainable.
Morgan.

Not a bad idea, ForumNewbie
Although I agree with the ideas behind the $20 a yer/major upgrade, one of the major versions I chose 3dFA was because it was cheap and user friendly, and of course, because I would have access to free updates.
My proposal would be slightly different:
When you buy the product, you have two choices, you can either buy the product at a cheap price (current price) and have no access to later updates, which say, would come out twice a year, and another choice that costed more, maybe twice the current cost, and had access to all updates. Perhaps yet another option is in between, that is that you could have a price halfway between the above options, which you are required to pay a small sum, maybe $20, for each upgrade. Either way, 3dFA will then bring in more money.
Also, there is the problem of current users. Should they be affected by the changes?
Its up to 3DFA, and hopefully it provides inspiration for them.

Here is another option too -
Another possible solution is to fork 3DFA, much like RedHat and Fedora, and have one "paid" product, and one free and open source product. In this way 3dFA will have code pouring in from their Open Source fork, and keep their commercial product bug-free and stable, whilst the Open Source bracnh might become unstable. Like Fedora, 3DFA will become a testing ground for the commercial version of 3DFA.
Maybe I should start a poll based on this???
