They have a good reason to not waste bandwidth.

Other search engines can still learn from them. For example Altavista: http://www.not-a-blog.com/urlmagic/i....altavista.com 4.33%

HTML the old style is a waste of bandwidth: 14 GB saved each day on /. redesign with proper XHTML/CSS
Add some compression and they'll save additional 11.23%

My own site is not much better.

I'm preparing some code that buffers the output and then optimizes the code before outputing it to the browser. This way you still have a readable source on the server.

well, both my sites are not complicated or anything, that's why i'm guessing they're quite optimized.....also, I code everything by hand dreamweaver also outputs a lot of garbage code when you use it only as a WYSIWYG

Actualy I don't optimize the structure, I just remove comments, useless whitespaces and line breaks (line breaks are two chars, so replacing them with a space saves one).

You might want to remove the trailing paragraphs and breaks as well, very ugly.

I see that my site redisign will be nice and clean

You gotta remove those tables people. It will cut the size of your site in half.
