Finaly! Apple shows new 4.1million pixel 30" display at WWDC!

30" Display. 4.1million pixels. G5 like aluminium enclosure. firewire/usb. only works with PowerMac
since needed a new graphics card. existing cards could not drive it. needs two dvi connections running in parallel.

Ok, so I have to get a new gfx card? Oh my, can someone give me some money?

    From an othewr source:

Aluminum Cinema Displays, coming in 20-inch, 23-inch, and 30-inch sizes, as expected. Apparently the resolution of the 30-inch model is so great (4.1 million pixels), that it requires a new $599 graphics card that will only work on the G5 and has two DVI connectors running in parallel.

The 20-inch monitor will cost $1,299, the 23-inch wil cost $1,999, and the 30-inch will cost $3,299.
    $3299+$599 --> $3898!

    Tiger News:

With panther, leapt ahead of competition. We think tiger will catapult us
even further ahead. over 150 new features. Some are just groundbreaking.

    Some features:

    - Unix. 64-bit.
    - Better SMB support.
    - Most revolutionary feature: searching. too many folders now on our hard disk.
How to solve it? We already have solved it. in iTunes, you can find a song by
title artist, album etc... in a second, just by typing into the search field.
Apply to the entire system. "Spotlight" search tech. You can ask it stuff like
find my keynote presentation by phil which I opened last week.

Tiger ships in 1st half of 2005.

The search feature of Tiger sounds amazing. A little bit like Google, just for local files.

for the filesystem, sounds like they finally either implemented piles or a better index/meta-data system.

but I find it funny that they're touting a monitor that's about 1k more than their best machine.

    insane.

Sounds really nice ( just too bad I'm off the school developer program, now I'll have to wait until the release to try it out )
Do you know if the keynote will be up on the apple site?

It's a full context indexing (pdfs etc..) search system and you can use it in any app if you only want to find things from that app for example ... it sounds really like Google, just for local files.

@nucleuz: I guess the keynote will be at Apples site later, maybe not today.

    Yes.

New search field in Safari for RSS. Shows search in Google, but says there's a delay by days.
Instead can search RSS feeds, and presents them together.

Wouldn't it be great to aggreate rss feeds and search through them for things you
    want? Demoing Safari's RSS reader.

Now: Safari. We're going to take it a step further. New thing - RSS. Get all this data
from sites and format it how you want. List of site that offer RSS sites (MacRumors,
surprisingly, was not mentioned... though we do have one )

I have a three monitor setup right now, so no immediate need for the 30", but it would be very cool.

    Drool:

New tech: Core Image and Core Video. doing processing in graphics processor (GPU), not the CPU.
all done with floating point precision. realtime filters. over 100 professional quality
filters. just like audio units, you can extend with image and video units to extend it
any way you want. similar to audio units/coreaudio. avail to dev to write any apps
    they want.
You don't need a new Xcode to use the new APIs, but yeah, would be cool to have a new version of Xcode. Did they announce it?

no new xcode, yet. been hinted to in a line or two after the codec mentions leading into core audio/video.

    This sounds cool:

Next: Automater. Visual scripting. Has access to iLife apps. Demo of Automater.
Easy to use. Left hand side are categories of actions. as you click a category
the actions appear in a list below. Actions can be linked ... where the results of
first action are provided to second action. (example is getting images from website
    and adding to iphoto library).
Sounds like Actions in Photoshop, just for the iLife apps (and hopefully other apps, too)
