    splitting library items

okay, i have a button on a menu that i made, and needed a different one with the same behaviors, but different text on the buttons...

when i copied and pasted the button, all the stuff showed up right, but when i changed the text, it changed it for both of them...and i only wanted it changed on one...that is because they are just two instances of the same button, right?

is there a way that i can tell flash to "split" the one item so that they are different buttons?

    thanks,
    chris

That is b/c you are editting the same symbol and any changes made to it will reflect in all instances of that symbol. To make copies, right click on it in the library and choose 'duplicate copy'. Then you can modify the duplicate copy w/o affecting the original symbol.

does it work the same way in mx 2004 pro? because when i right clicked it in the liabrary, the only other option is "duplicate" ...i clicked that, and proceeded to make changes to it....
then it did the same thing; changed both of them....

If you have nested movieclips within your symbol, you will need to make duplicates of of the nested movieclips before you can edit them.
