    Question

I'm seeing some talk of "tracing." What is this technique for? I've gathered that it has something to do with making smaller files? Any info or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Bitmap tracing is a method that "can" save some space if done right. If you do it wrong it can make the file size grow much larger.
The key to using the trace is to limit the amount of nodes that will be produced, this is done by the settings you select. If you choose to make the trace look just like the picture your file size will be up to 10 times larger than with the original rastor image. but if you can live with less realistic looking photos and or there are few colors in the picture it may be the answer. You can try it by selecting the image with the picker tool and then go to the main menu select Modify> Trace Bitmap, a dialog box will appear. Then just play around. If it is a large picture with a lot of detail and you try and trace it at a near pixel level it could take a very very long time to trace. Regards, Bill
