Thread: My Zelda Game Sample

    My Zelda Game Sample

    Well check out my Sample work for that Zelda game for now
    If you know a way to fix anything wrong with it so far plz post it here

    Yes, it is based off ZGOTeddy's Engine
    I will change it more and more so i do not copy him...i dun want to copy him...
    i tried adding a treasure chest but im quite not getting it..
    oh and the sprites i got are awesome... so i replaced his link sprites with these new ones from Fourswords
    Also... I will add a story line
    it goes something like this:

    The Legends of Zelda: Sounds of the Shield/Shield of Stories
    (Title working)
    but basically Link finds a Shield that talks to him/ it tells Stories
    IT claims to know all the stories... Then Link says, " well, what was my first adventure like?"
    the Shield replies, " That is one I cannot forget, for i was in it..."
    and then you start playing the game...
    and etc...
    but thats not until next time folks..
    just see my sample game right here:
    Zelda Sample is Here

    Thanx in Advanced ...I'll bbl after i sleep

    ok, the graphics was pretty neat, I thought the use of a mouse was bad though

    Who wants to use a mouse AND the keyboard at the same time XD
    Also you need instructions so we know how to play
    Finally, when I die from being herded by a bad guy.. I'd like maybe a way to continue the game, great work though!

    mmm, not bad mate.

    There were a few depth issues (up above the huts) and that starting thing is so anoying! Having the selectable text, over the button - it frustrates me. I suggest making that text not selectable

    Nice start!

    ps: not wanting to confront you, but what have u done in this game? the AI?

    one major problem apart from the ones these guys have said, when i attack a guy close to a tree, the bad guy gets stuck past the tree.

    Nice start though, but how much of this game have you actually made caus although zelda is a hard game to make, if you know hit tests and some other game stuff like moving character and boundaries it shouldnt be that hard, apart from gaining experience and weapons and things i dont see any need for using some other guys engine.
    If our body is a clock ticking away and if while we experience all that this world has to offer time has still continued to pass, are we living or just experiencing a slow death?

    ok so i slept..
    ok so i see how evreyone is wondering why i use ZGOTeddy's Engine....
    It will soon be gone i only did this as a test so everyone can see the Link Sprites in action the way the game might be ...
    I will fix the treasure chests
    I will fix the enemies geting stuck in the trees
    I will also fix the mouse use...
    but i really like ZPOTeddy's engine and the way he actually made it...
    but i will add an action button to talk to people or to open a chest hopefully
    and if u went up to the cloaked man he would tell you what was in the chest

    I added the sprites myself
    i had to edit every single one so it would fit perfectly (it ended up not being 100% perfect but more like 98%)

    I added rupees that could be found in chests so far
    I am currently making new maps and stuff...I honestly like making the game this way better
    I only showed the game for the reason of he sprites and to see other people's opinions..
    If i were to change the engine tell how should i make it?

    Tile Based?

    If so it would be longer to do...but it would fix the enemies bug...
    If tilebased i would need tiles for everything including a green tree...a red tree... a yellow tree...grass with flowers....grass....dirt road...treasure chest....

    This way using the layers is undoubtedly very easy for me to bring in new aspects of the game and edit it easier....

    (Controls: Left, Up, Right, Down, Space)

    Uh.. no, when you talk to the dude in the center, you have to use the mouse to scroll down when reading the message, I find it ackward, because when playing games (on nintendo/n64) there is no mouse! :P

  11. #11
    yes i have done some of my own coding in other games and i am doing for this game to...
    secondly the Spacebar can be used to scroll down in text box also...

    Thirdly...I am not the best at coding my dad is really good and said if i want to learn i should do this...so this way he said i can see the codes as i input my own / modify other ones to see the outcome and problem solve it or sumthin...my daddy is smart so dont mess with his teachings not that you are...
    But i hope to learn from this..
    so far this is just a test for the animation of Link like i said a million times...
    umm... and i will get back to the tile based engine later...i have other things i gotta do like soccer season is comin up.. and prepare for school.. stuff like that...
    and im going on vacation so i presume it wil take longer than expected...
    i do have books to help me along the way too...

    If i dont use the Tile-Based Engine...
    1. I will use ZGOTeddy's engine..(i mean why waste a good engine and put it to no use)
    2. I will add my own coding
    3. It will be done
    4. It will be the fact that i can't think up of a neat engine to create and i thikn ZGOTeddy's is the best
    5. I will add a story line (which note he didn't have such a large storyline)
    6.Remember that this forum isn't only for the gamers who script but it could also be used for those who implement story / graphics into a game...
    7. I am making the game fun...before it was fun.. i am making it funner
    8. challenging too
    9. I will add rupees...(note that will take my own scripting and i have already done this!)
    So i can think of more reasons of what i had put into it and etc...
    but... for now i am taking it slow...
    and i am pretty mediocre with Flash scripting
    i am more of an animator and screenwriter type of a person..
    but i love making things especially games where my animations can take affect ..
    10. I will add cut scenes... (which also require basic animation

    That does it for a while
    but i hope someone understands why i would rather use ZGOTeddy's Engine!

    One little note on tilebased - The Zelda you are taking inspiration from was tilebased. The Sprites should all tile nicely with some careful/imaginative placement & clipping of their graphics.

    Both options are nice - sometime try both

    Erm...
    yes i have done some of my own coding in other games and i am doing for this game to...
    If you aren't fully coding your own games yet, I really, really don't think you should be getting into Zelda. I am currently building an RPG (Aureus Dynasty, pardon the pimp) and it is no cake walk.

    But if you insist on doing this, get you're tile engine out of the way (Zelda is tilebased right?).

    it aint bad for a first sample, i dont like how the chest just dissapears when you walk into it, its more fun to have to open them for example walking up to it and pressing enter or something...

    i am currently working on a female version of zelda for my girlfriend to play based on Alice in wonderland.. i kow its probably copyrighted but i dont intend selling it.

    i preffer to make it art based rather than tile based.

    you can view my gme here if anyone wants to see

    bare in mind this is still a Work in Progress.

    well i just added bush's that spit out random items when you slash at them...

    I will continue making the game this way....
    when it is done everyone shall see why making it this way may be a little better
    So far i have added:
    1 a green rupee,
    2 a red rupee too...
    3 i have added bush's that when slashed may reveal random items
    (may because there is a chance you may not get an item)
    4. Better sprites than the old Link
    5. Treasure Chests
    (still working on the treasure chests)
    6. a story (working on)
    7. and a store with multiple items that way you can spend rupees
    the game ZGOTeddy had made you get 300 rupees from visiting the king there was only one shop to go to and after you got the item which was an empty bag you could not gain more rupees or get other items later on (by buying them))
    i am currently adding a magic bar, so you can use magic!
    so i may not know too much coding... but i at least can get help from you guys (i hope) my dad and tutorials i can find...
    but so far i have not used anything except ZGOTeddy's engine...
    So if you still think i am not good enough to make a Zelda game then i suggest you tell me why...it may help me make the game bettter
    thanx
    Currently working on:
    1. Upgradable weapons
    2. More Enemies (monsters)
    3. Mini-Game (2 ( 1 is an arrow shooting game) (2nd is a treasure chest game..)
    4. the world map
    5. boomerang (a maybe)
    6. Magic (Fire and Ice)

    So you see i can make this game big...
    but i think i'll need a bigger amount of space on my website...

    Oh well be back soon to give you latest
    gimme suggestions

    Ey gotMilk...

    for reading signs etc, use a boolean for keypresses

    code:

    onClipEvent(load){
    pressed = false;
    }
    onClipEvent(enterFrame){
    if(Key.isDown(Key.ENTER) && pressed == false){
    pressed = true;
    othercode = goeshere;
    }
    }
    onClipEvent(keyUp){
    if(!Key.isDown(Key.ENTER)){
    pressed = false;
    }
    }

    something like that
    i tried going in the building and it kept flashing between two frames
