i love my dead gay iPod!

there, i said it...and i feel much better.

i'm a week in, and this thing is freakin' amazing. why did i wait so long?
and finally, i have my trendwhore merit badge...quite an honor!

and that 'buy now' button in itunes - man, you gotta have some restraint...

it's not dead or gay, i'm just a fan of 'heathers'

sure, but i got a 40 gig - it's the concept that's worth it, not the storage.
once i have one of those FM transmitters, i'll be all set...

I love my iPod too, I just wanna buy stuff for it so it keeps lovin me and being nice to me and that. It's a 20gig but already has my entire CD collection uploaded to it and has loads of space left, if only I could work out how to get my old LP's and cassettes on there I would be laffin!!

my new toy is arriving today:

    http://www.archos.com/products/prw_500451.html

Its mainly for use as an extra storage device for when I go on holiday and take loads of pictures on my digi cam but it also works as an MP3 player too so it kicks ass

An ipod would be nice but:

    a) I think this looks just as cool
    b) it has compact flash slot already built in
    c) it has a screen to make sure the images have copied accross OK

Whatever you do, don't buy the iTrip... It's crap. Buy the Linex FM transmitter.

iPods really aren't that great, they fall apart even when looked after.

    Bah Humbug!

Good to see your curmudgeonly shell is cracking.

Anyway, I'm personally not a fan of FM transmitters. If you have a tape deck in your car, use a cassette adapter, better sound quality. (Pretty much sounds like a CD in mine.) If not, see if your head unit has a CD changer input or a line input, have a cord installed so you can plug the iPod right into it.

For home, just use the dock to plug it into your stereo, it gives you a 1/8th jack with a line out signal.

Now we just have to get you to install Firefox.

Are you insane????? FM is, or should be always better quality than old analogue tape!!

Go with FM everytime, or buy a player with a line in jack

I speak from experience. A quality tape adapter and a clean, quality tape deck sound better than a distorted FM signal.

i already had the cassette adapter in my truck for use with my cd discman...great quality.
i'm using a 1/8" jack here at work.
but for our travelling car (a newer honda) i would need the transmitter...surely they don't sound that bad?

i like the idea of getting a dangling 1/8" line in jack, but that sounds suspiciously like a car mod...and you know me...

and yes, firefox is tempting. if you can proove to me that it will not bring my XPpro crashing to the ground, i may try it....

    Nah. This is purely pragmatic.

i know - but seriously, is that easy to do?
would a newer honda have a line in jack waiting to be used back in there?
and if so, how do you get back in there?

Nope... very doubtful... most with a line in, have it on the front. Its the 3.5mm headphone sized female jack.

I don't see how a crappy tape adapter (which have no high end and make the music sound bloated and bassy in my experience) could beat a nice clean FM signal???

All the tape adaptors I've used in my time have been absolute tosh. I'd go for the FM device every time, you're only broacasting a tiny distance, so I don't see how the signal could be that bad?

FM isn't a clean signal, there's distortion. Not as much as AM, but it's still noticable.

Check your head unit, if it has a connection for a CD-changer in the back, chances are you can buy a cable that will convert the cd-changer in to a 1/8th or RCA. The dealer should know, or any one of those high-end car mod shops.

My favorite part is that I can use it as an external hard drive.

My transmitter goes 150 feet with no distortion and at full blast!
The best thing about it is that you can have all stereos in your house playing the same tunes without the need for expensive linked systems.

I'm sorry but tapes are SO past it.
