think i need flash 5

i have a projector that contains a password application. when the user enters the username and password it checks an external folder called users which contain text files called "username(s)".txt which hold the passwords.

this works fine as long as the users folder containing the .txt files and the projector are in the same directory.

what i need is the users folder to be server side and the projector to be on the clients pc locally.

do i need flash 5 to do this or is there a way with actionscript to link to the txt files.
