    hi all,

    is there a way for flashMX2004pro to read a server folder's content (all files and filenames) and return it in a string?

    thanks a lot

    to the best of my knowledge you'd need to use serverside scripting for that...what techs do U have on your server?

    best regards

    sorry; server-side technologies: Things like ColdFusion, PHP,ASP and the likes.
    Which one does your server/host support?

    to the best of my knowledge there's no way then. But you might want to post your question on a JS forum. Where do you host? Only JS seems kinda cheap to me...

    thought so, i know the php method but i was wondering if there was a method in flash.

    the space is standard with my account at my isp.
    i am looking for a good mysql/php provider that does registering too. for now i just want to get a hang of sql. can you recommend based on speed, stability, price and helpdesk speed?

    Thanks a lot for your help

    there are so many out there it's hard to say. I am very happy with www.tera-byte.com and www.hostmysite.com. Both have responded almost instantly to my issues...ask around

    JScript and Javascript (aren't they the same?) can't read files from the server. If you have a Linux server you more than likely have PHP installed. To test this theory just make a webpage that has this simple code in it and call it "info.php"

    PHP Code:
    [?php
    phpinfo
    ();
    ?]
    replace [ with <

    Once you know if you can run PHP then you can do a linux command or I'm sure there's a PHP command, either way it's about the same.

    PHP Code:
    echo `ls /home/webuser/wwwroot/folder`;
    The ` is the letter below ~

    This tells PHP to perform a Linux system command and list the folder contents. You can also change this so PHP sends this to a variable and Flash reads it from the variable.

    Have fun figuring this out.
    yup.
