I buy new computers, now. It's cheaper. You can't keep up with the economies of scale that benefit the Dells of the world.
P4, 2.8 GHz for $299. How can you compete with that? You can't. Take the cheap, fast system with a warranty, and walk away happy.
I mentioned that. At the low end it has been cheaper or not more expensive to buy from WalMart or Sub 300 PC or [Name your discount dealer] for about 3 years.
Now these dealers don't typically deal in the custom stuff and form factor stuff.
Now I can Spec out a Dirt Cheap Puter Using Tiger Direct;
1. PCChips Flex ATX Embeded C3 Mobo Intergrated Sound, Video, LAN- 69.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=P459-1000
2. SOYO Black Mid Tower with 350 Power supply, Keyboard, speakers, and Mouse - Free after Rebate http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...506067&CatId=0
3. Seagate 7,200 RPM 40 GB Hard Drive With Linspire Pre-Installed - 69.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...0AA3%20LINDOWS
4. Viking 256 MB DDR 266MHz RAM 31.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...3662&CatId=838
5. Toshiba 8X Dvd+/-RW 49.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...0&Sku=P34-2018
Grand Total after Rebates is 221.96 (You could use less memory, cheaper Hard Drive, and a CD Burner and get it down to about 150)

Domo Arigato!
Uh...you forgot a processor in your above example. That computer would just kind of sit there as it is now.
I really enjoy forgetting. When I first come to a place, I notice all the little details. I notice the way the sky looks. The color of white paper. The way people walk. Doorknobs. Everything. Then I get used to the place and I don't notice those things anymore. So only by forgetting can I see the place again as it really is.

No I didn't.
The MOBO has an Intergrated C3 Ezra 800 in it. Although to be honest you would be better off getting a Cheaper Micro-Atx Mobo and buying a C3 Nehimiah 1000 (Tiger Direct sells them for $39.99)
OOPS!!! Its actually a C3 Sam 2 Intergrated on that board. After you said something I looked around and indeed the SAM II is directly intergrated into the board (No Upgrade possibilities).

Oh, whoops, my bad. Not like that computer would be able to do much of anything, though. You could cheap out, however, and for a few bucks more get a cheap-o mobo and low-end Athlon or Celeron processor...
