    pixelranger.com How is this done?

    Hi everyone,

If you go to www.pixelranger.com and then click on 'Genesis' you will see some photos this guy has 'brought to life'. What I want to know how to do is what he does on, for example, the picture of 'Long Beach City'. He basically takes a photo, puts it into flash and then uses 'sprites' to make the picture seem alive. The signal lights in the city turn on, you can see the headlights of some cars in the distance in another picture he has.

Any ideas on how you would to make these little animations function like this, in terms of looping and using a timer I guess?

    Thanks for any ideas.

    Sal

Even cooler than those two is the Sci-Fi movie set. He has it where you can move the camera around and see the new view on that monitor. That's awesome. He probably just has that stuff in movie clips. Must have edited out certain elements in photoshop and then added them into flash for animation. For example he would have edited out the stop hand and then just made a movie clip of it blinking. Etc.
For all of you who don't know, use (AS) and (/AS) in your post and put your actionscript in them, it makes it easier to read. (replace ( and ) with square brackets)

    Hey DHX,

To do this is fairly simple.

    First,
    Take a nice panoramic photo.
Once you have a photo scene you've taken and you want to use, bring it into photoshop.

Using extra layers, use some of your digital painting talent to make some realistic effects. For example flashing lights, shadows, and other objects.

Then bring the new objects in seperately as PNG files with preserved transparency.

With flash, pop the png files into the timeline where you want them to occur and animate them as you wish.

    Hope that helps,

Thank you everyone, I'll also check out that book. I'm not too good with using timers and basically working with time in general. I thought I might have to get into that with these mini-animations happening on top of the panoramic image.

    side note about books.

One important tip to save you money:

Check your local library if they have that book, then you can borrow it for free. If they don't have a book, ask them to order it. Most libraries have a budget for the year and can buy books you request.

It was just published.... so it's unlikely, however, give it a shot.
