    Digital Natives (WIN 40 BUCKS!)

What percentage of FK members are "Digital Natives"

    http://news.com.com/Ignoring+%27Gene...html?tag=st_lh

In case nobody knows... let's estimate it by average... everybody takes a guess then we add and divide. That should give us a workable average.

"...each of these individuals average close to 10,000 hours playing video games; more than 200,000 e-mails and instant messages sent and received; nearly 10,000 hours of talking, playing games, and using data on cell phones; more than 20,000 hours spent watching television; almost 500,000 commercials seen--all before they finished college. At most, they’ve logged only 5,000 hours of book reading."

    quote from C-Net

If that describes you...you are a "Digital Native"

i dunno, i love video games, but the last one i played was Mario Bros 3 (NES) and the only pc game i'm good at is sim city.

I do watch a lot of tv, but also try to read a lot (when i'm in the restroom doing number 2 or before i go to bed, or when in the bus).

Do like to learn and programming and geeky stuff, but i try practicing sports and drinking and girls.

So, I don't know what i am. I'm a geek I know that, but a digital native, no way! i like my cellphone simple and easy, just to call and send sms.

My friends think I'm crazy though, because i want to make my fridge and microwave communicate each other via web services

I could be wrong here but it looks like all four of you are digital natives... which is good news for FK. A membership list low in digital natives is like a diet low in fresh fruit and vegetables... not a good thing.

The initial question is more to do with the health of FK as a group... not so much the individual members.

One way we can figure that out is like this: The five of us take a guess at what is the average percentage of natives for all of the ACTIVE membership.

The more members taking part... the greater the accuracy of our little research.

Once we get the individual guesses we add them up and divide them by the number of entries.

This exercise may seem a little insignificant but it is as important to FK as a blood test would be to you and I.

Pick a word you like better and I'll be happy to substitute it.

Do you care to place a guess... so we can widen our data base?

I talk like this because I'm not a digital native... this annoying accent you hear is my digital immigrant accent (I arrived in web land in the year 2000)... It will take me years to lose it and even then, I'll never lose it entirely, not because I won't... because I just can't.

Answer to JAQUAN: FK and quite a few other interested parties.

This is more important than it looks.

I see you are a very senior member, judging from your 9080 entries.

You are much better equipped to give us a well informed guess.

Take a wild guess... under 30% or is it more like over 70%

I'm going to take a wild guess here... Alex is second from the right... front row... definitely a native.

Will someone please give me an estimate... let's have some figures...

Or am I dealing with a bunch of Digital Chickens here?
