Screw longhand, you need to get him to spend days learning shorthand, while whipping him with a leather belt playing hardcore thrash metal in the background.

I sure as hell hope this isn't true in Australia, I have a few 17 year old friends and a few younger friends as well who live by themselves, have their own bank accounts and jobs. I would hate for there parents too be able to take their money out of there account without permission legally!

    Doesn't sound right.

unless their legally emancipated from their parents it could happen. It's a basic structure of english common law. The determining factor is the age of majority (adulthood) set in your jurisdiction. This is one of the reasons why your parents could take away your car or drivers license. Basically the law says until you become an adult you are a form of property ... or kinda like livestock.

Cruelty is not allowed but don't think you have real rights to property. Your bank account is available for your parents/legal guardians to take if they want to.

It's a wierd legal position to be in.. you can be sent off to die in a war, but you can't drink a beer. Your permitted to drive to get to work for minimum wage... if your parents sign off to let you get your license. You have the rights of a child but the responsibilities of an adult.

Fortunately most of the truly fuc*ed up parents who would rip their kids off are too stupid to realize they legally have the right to do it.

Man I was checking out porn when I was just a nipper! I think I must've been around 10 when I saw my first 'Jaz Mag'. All this policing the internet just seems over the top to me.....kids are always gonna get to see it!

    It's all very simple......

I think the conversation lost sight of the situation.

I believe the poster mentioned that his child was 5, right? Therefore it would be completly accident.

It worked out pretty good for my parents, when I was growing up. Family got our first computer when I was 6. A 386 powerhouse. It wasn't until I was 11 that the internet came around, and it was still hard to come across porn.

Yeah, our computer is in the main living room and we don't let the kids use it without adult supervision

If it's too late to have kids then I guess you won't need the blocker.

If you do have kids part of the deal is that you are responsible for passing on your value system to them. The best way to do that is to maintain an open line of communications with them. Telling them what you expect of them and why it's important. Right up there with look both ways before crossing the street and wash your hands and brush your teeth.

Yeah, right. Son, on the internet there are picks of men pissing in women's mouths, well, do not look at them, because you might like what you see and become a pervert.

When I was a boy I saw a semi hit a motorcyclist who decided to jump the light. Right before my eyes. It was tragic and horrible. Simply seeing it happen didn't make me want to grow up to be a truck driver so I could run over people.

I'm not your son. I'm 54. I am my father's son and yet I am my own man. I live my life on my terms while valuing the wisdom he imparted on me. My father didn't believe that locking me up in a closet and shunning me from the world I would live in was the best way to prepare me for adulthood.

Why is a discussion about this happening in an 11+ year old thread?

These necro threads serve nothing more than places for spam.

Hmm, did not get notification from Frets reply. There seems to be a lot of people arguing that things you see (or read, for that matter) in works of art etc, do not affect your personal choices. I think it's bullsht. I agree that people (even young ones) can tell the difference between fiction and real life, be this fiction Bill's bride cutting gangster heads, or some porn actress giving head to ten men at the same time. However, I do believe seing that gives you lots of ideas of what to do in your real life. You see some cloth the character wears, and you go "omg I should totally get one". Or - case 2 - "no way, I will never wear that" - but if you fall into this 2nd case, it does not mean everyone else does. So goes for hitting people with the car. Maybe most people, as Frets, will not want to replicate that. Does not mean none of them will. Maybe seeing the guts with blood fountaining out will make them lose their speech. Or maybe send them in months wasted on gore sites. Or maybe they will start to cut dogs bellies for fun. You never know, what the sight can trigger.
