    Athlon64 or Opteron - Recommendations ?

    Hi All,

I'm looking to go 64bit so I can give my sister my older setup.

All I need is a decent motherboard, processor and memory.

I've been looking and I'm not sure what the best combination is as yet.

Seems to be Asus or Gigabyte basically.

    Any Recommendations ?

    Oh and under £500

    Cheers.

    Karl.

the cpu under $500 or the whole setup?

my AMD 64-Bit cost me $410(amd 3400+) when i bought it, and $150 for my Asus K8V Deluxe motherboard and $200 for my Consair XPS ddr400 512 stick of ram

hope that helps, excellent setup, and i am sure like 100-200 less if you bought it all now since prices all went down

    all from www.newegg.com

    Ok, Excellent.

In that case I'll have another look. I'd like the current fatest Athlon, but ebuyer's faster ones are boxed and like double the price.

Its just the motherboard I have to pick

    Cheers.

Asus is the way to go in my humble opinion.
I really enjoy forgetting. When I first come to a place, I notice all the little details. I notice the way the sky looks. The color of white paper. The way people walk. Doorknobs. Everything. Then I get used to the place and I don't notice those things anymore. So only by forgetting can I see the place again as it really is.
